“The cartoons are merely a pretext. What is a warning sign is why and how. The issue of the demonstrations cannot be approached apart from the context of the social-economic problems of the Moslem world and of the countries of the Moslem world on the one hand, and the tensions that have been palpable for years between Europe and the Moslem world on the other.”
