Supposing that Europe familiarizes itself with the concept of autonomy (including all the requirements which result from this), and does not make concessions when its strategic interests are at stake, the zealous enthusiasm for "convergence" (considered as alignment) on other side of the ocean could become considerably cooler. And conversely. If the current tendency continues, with the permanent erosion of Europe’s sovereignty, public opinions on the old continent might, one day, simply have enough of it. In other words, for either one of the two “rapproachment” scenarios to go to the end of its logic, one needs either a radically transformed America, or completely anaesthetized European citizens. In any event, we cannot exclude the possibility that the pre-defined narrative of "inexorable rapproachment" might be called into question. Not so much in the form of rupture than rather under that of the establishment of limits.
